A Message from George Ariyoshi, Chair of The Hawaii Alliance

Aloha!

One of the beautiful things about Hawaii is our aloha spirit, a heartfelt love for the Islands and its people that sets us apart from others. It is that same spirit of cooperation that brings together people who represent different perspectives and hold different opinions. That spirit of unity is most evident in a diverse, growing group simply called The Hawaii Alliance. It’s an honor for me to be serving as chair of this important alliance. This is one of the most important undertakings for me since serving as governor.

Our name aptly describes our group’s mission: an alliance to cherish all that is good about Hawaii and to build a stronger future for our Island home. The group consists of businesses, unions, nonprofit organizations and individuals who may not see eye to eye on everything but agree on one thing: we must band together to look after the best interests of Hawaii.

Our group is opposed to having a Constitutional Convention because it would divert significant amounts of money away from the immediate needs of our community. We believe this is irresponsible and not a prudent use of the hard earned money of Hawaii’s taxpayers. A Constitutional Convention is expensive and this would not only hurt people in the short term, but also hurt all of us for many years to come if any harmful amendments are introduced by special interests.

The issue is too important for any one organization to take on by itself. There is strength in diversity and unity. Our goal is have more voters cast their ballot against the Constitutional Convention in the upcoming general election on November 4. We would like to invite you to join our efforts to defend and protect Hawaii.

We need everyone’s kokua. There are a number of ways to get involved. Please email us and find out how you can support. Most important of all, vote “No” on the Constitutional Convention.

Mahalo,

George Ariyoshi
Chair
The Hawaii Alliance
